How old is cancer?
An osteosarcoma has been diagnosed in a human ancestor who lived around 1.7 million years ago. The lesion was in a fossilised metatarsal bone from Swartkrans cave, SA. On 3D imaging the lesion has the appearance of a parosteal osteosarcoma.
